Giro Rosa 2018

I’m finally back home from after following the Giro Rosa and La Course there’s a chance to take a breath and look back at the last two weeks of racing. I have a love/hate relationship with the Giro Rosa. I love the stages, they’re often unlike anything else we have all season. I love that it’s longer than a week, a narrative can develop at a ten day race, where shorter stage races often feel over before they’ve begun. I love the food: On the rare moments you find to eat during the two weeks, you often uncover great places to eat in the most inconspicuous places. There’s plenty I don’t like too: The inaccurate stage maps. Their inability to safely manage a finish line, I could go on… But the most frustrating thing is that the race stays the same. 2018 was my sixth Giro Rosa, and it’s exactly the same as it was on my first visit in 2013. Meanwhile races around it have improved leaps and bounds, raising the standards in the sport. It’s not enough to take the approach of ‘well this is how we always do it’. If the Giro isn’t careful it’ll get left behind.

But enough of my rambling. Here’s a selection of photos from ten days of racing in Italy.
