Lotto Thüringen Ladies Tour 2019 - Stage 1

In women’s races, breakaway groups that get more than a couple of minutes are rare. Ones that get seven minutes and stay away are about as common as unicorns trotting down the high street whilst singing show tunes! It’s been a few hours since the race finished and I’m still not sure I understand what happened. Most of the big teams had a rider in the break but given the mix of riders, Guarischi is probably going to win a sprint finish from that group nine times out of ten, and not reducing the gap at all before the finish leaves the GC favourites with a lot of work to do. :-/

In other news, due to the way the flights worked out, I’ve been in Germany since Sunday and my ‘bratwurst count’ is still at zero! This must be corrected before stage two!
