Boels Rental Ronde van Drenthe marks the start of the Women’s Road World Cup on 9th March. In a World where sponsorship is becoming ever harder to find Boels Rentals have been securing sponsorship multiple sponsorships across women’s cycling including, Valkenburg Hills Classic, saving the Holland Ladies Tour, stepping up to be headline sponsor and committing to 4 years sponsorship of Boels Dolmans team and the 3 year sponsorship of this race.

The race

Race profile

The 132.8km route starts and finishes in the outskirts of Hoogeveen, heading out to loop through Emmen. The race features tight turns, narrow roads which often taper to little more than tracks and 3 stretches of cobbles totalling 10km.

Cobbles through Odoorn woods

Three ascents of VAM, a former landfill site, make up the GPM points and bookend this demanding, technical course which virtually guarantees the cream of the crop will be battling it out for the win in the final kilometres.

At the time of writing the start list is not available but you can be sure all the big names will be present, looking to get off to the best possible start to the World Cup.

Previous Winners:

It’s fair to say Dutch riders have dominated the podium in previous years, winning the race on 5 of the 6 occasions and 12 of the possible 18 podium spots in that same period. Only 4 non-Dutch riders have stepped upon the podium!
