Today on stage one of Tour de Yorkshire was a novelty, and no, I don’t mean because there was live TV coverage start to finish! I started the day from my own bed. This never happens! The location of the race may have been kind today, the weather… not so much.
Ahead of the race there had been some discussion between the photographers about the difficulty of getting around the course to good spots. Was it possible to do the Harrogate circuit and still make it to the finish? I was pretty confident it was possible, sure enough to take the risk. Jumping in the car after seeing the race twice on the Worlds circuit it was time for the dash to the finish, but there was no where to dash too! Chronic traffic issues trying to get to the motorway and what felt like the longest ever level crossing closure, I was sure our chances of getting to the finish in time was over. Twila in the passenger seat watched the race online: “20km to go, 19km to go” we were still well behind. I messaged JoJo asking if she could shoot the finish there, was no way we’d get there. Somehow we made it, (I still don’t know how!) running into the Market Square whilst the race had 2km to go.
